America’s favorite musical dads, The Piano Guys, have just released a new cover of Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect.” Jon Schmidt’s piano solo is a haunting and romantic rendition that’s bound to be the go-to wedding song. The audio track is now available via all download and streaming services, and the video can be viewed on their YouTube Channel.
The “Perfect” video takes viewers into the infamous scene of multi-Academy Award and Golden Globe-winning film La La Land. Schmidt impeccably mimics actor Ryan Gosling’s persona in the famed restaurant scene when Sebastian’s piano playing catches Mia’s eye. The video depicts several couples enjoying an intimate dinner, though the song makes you feel like you’re the only one in the room.
“The 6/8 meter lends itself very well to solo piano and the inspiration was abundant,” explains Schmidt. “It is one of my most favorite arrangements to play. I get lost in the tune every time. But what is most exciting to me is the fact that this arrangement got one of the best responses I’ve had in a long time from one of my most honest critics: my amazing wife Michelle.”
The Piano Guys – Steven Sharp Nelson, Jon Schmidt, Al Van der Beek and Paul Anderson – became an online sensation by way of their immensely successful series of strikingly original self-made music videos, which has far surpassed 1 billion views and garnered over 5 million subscribers on YouTube. They’ve made over 50 music videos since 2011, including their breakout hit, an innovative multi-handed version of One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful” and a gorgeous reinvention of the hit song “Let It Go” from Disney’s Frozen. To date, the Utah-based classical-pop group has released six major label albums on Portrait/Sony Music Masterworks: Wonders, The Piano Guys, The Piano Guys 2, a holiday album called A Family Christmas, The Piano Guys – Live! and most recently, their latest album Uncharted.
